Inked with purpose: Paballo

Her name is Paballo she is my new ever present North Star ⭐️, created on the 14 Dec 2019 conceptualised from early 2019 and designed from 3 Dec – 12 Dec 2019. She is my inspirational arm piece tattoo. I decided to get her for myself in a place I could see constantly. As a reminder of what is truly important to me.

The last two years have taught me how easy it is to focus on the necessary without prioritising the meaningful and truly joyful aspects of life. This lesson I treasure, sure it came at a costly and painful premium through illness but I appreciate it all the same. The clarity I aspire to always possess is this:

  • What is meaningful
  • What brings joy
  • What fuels purpose

Not only for myself but also for my family, friends, co-workers and community, as best I can and where I can understand it.

How I chose to cement this life lesson for myself was through my arm piece Paballo, “Ho iPaballa” in southern Sesotho means to look after yourself, that is what she inspires me to do. Paballo signifies me looking after my mind, body and spirit in a harmonious and balanced manner. That allows me to acknowledge that I live with a rare neurological disease that has changed my life in many ways and at the same time remember that I am abundantly blessed and have an amazing life to live. So when I look at her I remember why I should choose what is best for me and not what is most gratifying always. She is a gift to myself and makes my heart smile.
